Data recovery by post.

You don’t need a recovery lab on your high street — you need one a next-day box away. Send your drive, SSD, RAID set, NAS disks, card or stick from anywhere in the UK to our Belfast lab: free diagnostic on arrival, a written quote before any work, and your data home on a new drive or by secure download.

// why post-in works

Why post-in beats ‘near me’.

The equipment that decides recoveries can’t exist in every town — and it doesn’t need to.

Serious recovery work runs on hardware imagers, firmware tools, donor part libraries and clean-air conditions for mechanical work — a bench that takes years to build. No country has one in every town, which is why a great deal of the UK’s data recovery already travels by courier: many local shops that accept a failed drive quietly forward it to a lab anyway. Posting it yourself simply removes the middle step, the mark-up and the extra pair of hands.

Everything we take over the counter, we take by post: internal hard drives and SSDs, external and portable drives, complete laptops and Macs, RAID member disks, NAS disks, memory cards and USB sticks. The work is identical either way — same bench, same engineers, same pricing.

// how it runs

How the postal service works.

Four steps, and only one of them is yours.

Pack it. A rigid box and enough padding that nothing moves. Put a note inside with your name, address, email and phone number — or print the shipping form and drop that in instead.

Send it insured. Any tracked, insured service to Belfast Data Recovery, Forsyth House, Cromac Square, Belfast, BT2 8LA. Next-day options reach us from anywhere in the UK.

Free diagnostic, written quote. Within 48 hours of arrival we’ll tell you what’s wrong, what’s recoverable, and exactly what it costs — in writing, before anything is done. No fix, no fee applies to most jobs; physical repairs carry a 50% deposit toward donor parts and bench time, with the balance only on success.

Approve, recover, return. On your go-ahead we do the work and send your files home on a brand-new drive — or as a free secure download for anything up to 75 GB.

// packing notes

Packing, in sixty seconds.

A few habits per device type keep everything safe in transit.

A bare drive travels best wrapped and boxed so it can’t rattle — skip the caddies, cables and power bricks, we won’t need them. RAID and NAS sets: label each disk with its bay or slot number and pack them so they can’t knock together; the enclosure or controller can usually stay with you. Cards and sticks ride safely taped to card inside a padded envelope — and if a stick has snapped, bag both pieces. Water-damaged drives are the one exception to ‘dry and tidy’: seal a wet drive in a bag as it is, because staying damp beats corroding as it dries.

// sending your device in

Two simple steps.

Post or drop in your device for a free diagnostic, with a note on what happened — an engineer reviews it and confirms your exact quote in writing before any work begins.

1

Send us your device

First step: get the device onto our Belfast bench. Wrap it well, tuck your contact details in the box, and post it over — the diagnostic costs nothing, and you’ll have a firm written price to approve before we touch a single sector.

How to pack it
  • Wrap the device in a small, sturdy box or a padded envelope so it can’t move around.
  • Leave the caddies, cables and power supplies at home — we won’t need them to recover your data.
  • Before sealing the box, slip a note inside with who you are and how to reach you — name, address, email and a phone number — or print our shipping form and use that.

Posting it? A tracked, insured service is best. Dropping it off instead? You’re welcome Monday–Friday, 9am–5:30pm — please still pack the device as above.

// questions

Common questions, answered.

Yes — a powered-down drive has its heads parked and travels well. Use a rigid box with padding so it can’t shift, choose a tracked and insured service, and it’s no more at risk than it was on your desk. Drives arrive with us by post from every corner of the UK, every week.

The diagnostic is done within 48 hours of your device arriving, and you’ll have a written quote with a timescale attached. Most single-drive jobs then run to a matter of days; multi-disk RAID and NAS work takes longer, and anything urgent can be flagged when you send it.

Exactly the same as walking it in: memory cards and USB sticks are £250 + VAT, single drives — hard drive, SSD, or the drive from a laptop or Mac — are £300 + VAT, and multi-disk RAID, NAS and servers are quoted after the free diagnostic. Full details are on our pricing page.

Your recovered files come back to you on a brand-new drive, or as a free secure download for anything up to 75 GB — whichever suits. Return arrangements are set out plainly in your written quote, so there are no surprise charges at the end.
