What we do with your data.

You are trusting us with a drive that may hold years of your life, and with your name and number so we can talk to you about it. Here is exactly what we collect, why, how long we keep it, and what you can ask us to do about it.

// what we collect

Two different things.

Your contact details — name, email, telephone, and a return address if we are posting a device back. You give us these through the online diagnostic, the contact form, by email or by telephone.

The contents of your device — a recovery means reading everything on the media, because we cannot know in advance which sectors hold your files. We do not browse it, index it, or use it for anything other than returning it to you.

// why

Why we hold it.

Quoting, and doing the recoveryTo perform our contract with you
Payment and accounting recordsLegal obligation
Website analyticsYour consent — see cookies below
Defending a legal claimOur legitimate interests

Where a device holds health records or other special category data, our basis is the establishment or defence of legal claims, or your explicit consent.

// who sees it

Who else sees it.

The recovery is done in-house. Your device is not sent to a partner laboratory, and the data on it is not passed to anyone else. Your device and its contents stay in the UK.

Four providers necessarily handle limited data for us: our website host, couriers for tracked returns (name and address only), our payment processor and accountant, and Google Analytics if you accept it. We do not sell data or share it for marketing. We disclose it only where the law requires.

Google may process analytics data outside the UK, under the UK addendum to the standard contractual clauses. Nothing else leaves the country.

What you can ask us to do.

You can ask for a copy of what we hold, have it corrected or deleted, ask us to pause using it, receive it in a portable form, object to processing based on our legitimate interests, or withdraw consent at any time.

Call 028 9002 0144 or use any of the routes on our contact page. We reply within one month, and there is no charge.

If we get it wrong, tell us first so we can put it right. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint or on 0303 123 1113.

// cookies

Cookies.

Nothing is set until you choose. A banner asks once, and remembers your answer in a single entry on your own device.

If you accept, Google Analytics tells us which pages get read and how people arrive. If you decline, the script is never requested — not loaded and told to ignore you. It is never used to identify you.

// the legal bit

Who is responsible.

We make no automated decisions about you — every quotation is written by an engineer who has looked at your device. You do not have to give us your details, but we cannot quote, recover, or return anything without them. If this notice changes, the date at the top changes with it.
