Reading the plug experiment — and the honest limits of what it proved

Drives that improve on better power
One clean test is worth running: wall socket, original adapter, short cable — and note any change in behaviour. Decline repair pop-ups on a drive that's misbehaving after transit, and if you only need part of the contents, say exactly which folders — selective recovery is real, honest, and cheaper.
