This enquiry arrived ninety per cent diagnosed, and its last word was literally "So" — the customer reaching the exact edge of what home tools can establish, and asking what comes next. The patient: a Buffalo LinkStation Pro Duo, two 500GB drives in RAID, "running happily for many years" until he moved it — after which it wouldn't power up: drives vibrating when power connects, but no fan, no lights. His reading: "some sort of PSU failure" — sound. His next test was better still: each drive connected individually to his PC appears in Disk Management, "but the RAID software stops the PC accessing it, as you would expect" — and his conclusion, "the good news is that the drives seem to be OK," was correct. Finishing the diagnosis: what died, and why "visible but blocked" is exactly right
